ParaSkate breaths new life into medical gas trolleys

Private Finance Initiative hospitals represent state of the art design and technology. Theatres, wards, offices, virtually every aspect has been improved beyond belief.  Till one looks at the neglected medical gas trolleys lurking menacingly like thugs in an alley way. It has been said of gas trolleys that they are the great unwashed. Porters would scoff at you if you asked them to clean a trolley. Some have compared the clanking of rusty chains or bars on the gas trolley to Ebenezer Scrooge’s partners manacles, which manages to wake up dosing patients when a nurse or porter clumsily manoeuvres the squeaking and clanking trolley to the bedside of a needy patient.

Relief is now available in the form of the ‘ParaSkate’ (a micro gas trolley), like Superman it glides quietly and effortlessly over the floor without scuffing or leaving dubious looking rust stains. When not in use the ParaSkate can be stationed in the smart well designed ParaDoc which is free standing.

Gordon Brown’s “deep clean health campaign for hospitals” designed to protect against cross contamination from MRSA and Clostridium Difficile could be helped by the introduction of the ParaSkate.

 In England there are approximately eighty thousand medical gas cylinders in use in homes. Patients’ dependant on medical gas may have restricted movement to where the cylinder is situated. Last month Lord Darzi’s review of the NHS implied that the Elderly should be allowed to live in dignity, and die at home should they wish. The simple freedom to move from the bathroom to kitchen is now possible using the ParaSkate which enables the patient or their carer to provide some dignity and freedom which was previously impractical with the old cumbersome gas trolleys.

 This ingeniously simple micro trolley invented by NuTec Medical has the added benefit of low cost compared to existing gas trolleys. Its makers claim the micro trolley is big on stability, easy to clean and provides the freedom which many patients desire.
